About this plant
Echinacea is the plant we sell more of than anything else, and for good reason: it flowers from early July into September, it does not need staking, and it is genuinely drought-tolerant once its roots are down.
Leave the seed heads standing over winter. Goldfinches strip them through January, and the stems catch snow in a way that looks far better than a cut-back bed.
It will self-seed politely. Not aggressively — you will get a handful of volunteers a year, which most people are pleased about.
