Ten minutes off Highway 11 on Line 7. There is a lot of gravel, a farm dog called Rhubarb, and someone who will walk the beds with you if you tell them what you're trying to solve.
What's worth coming for, month by month
- April
- Cold-hardy perennials, seed potatoes, onion sets, bare-root trees. The greenhouse opens mid-month.
- May
- Everything. This is the month — annuals, hanging baskets, tomato and squash seedlings from the second week, and the shrub yard at its fullest.
- June
- Late annuals, herbs, and the first of the field vegetables. Perennials are still going in happily.
- July
- Field produce takes over the market shed. Good time to buy perennials on sale and plant them in the evening.
- August
- Tomatoes, corn, beans, squash. Bulb catalogue opens for pre-orders.
- September
- The best month to plant. Trees and shrubs go in now and root all autumn. Spring bulbs arrive.
- October
- Garlic, pumpkins, cornstalks, and the last of the bulbs. Everything woody is 30% off from the middle of the month.
- November
- Wreaths, greens and cut trees from the third weekend. Weekends only.
The market shed
From July we sell what we grow in the field out of the shed by the parking area — tomatoes, squash, beans, corn, garlic, and whatever else came in that morning. It is honour-system on quiet weekdays; there is a cash box and a card reader on the post.
