The detail
A proper leather boot in a market that has mostly moved to fabric shoes you throw away. This one is Goodyear-welted, which means when the sole wears out — and it will, at around 1,500 km — a cobbler replaces it rather than you replacing the boot.
Full-grain leather from a tannery in Quebec, one-piece across the vamp so there are fewer seams to fail. A steel shank gives the torsional stiffness you want on the escarpment's loose rock.
They need breaking in. Two weeks of wearing them around the house and on short walks before you take them anywhere serious. Anyone who tells you a leather boot is comfortable straight out of the box is selling you a different boot.
